Writer Wednesday: Poetry: 19
Remember when I’d hold your hand,
When we weren’t afraid of love,
When we gave it our all…
Remember our bubble.
Remember coffee at 3am,
Our old grandma cars,
And hugs goodbye that lasted
A good five minutes.
Remember when we couldn’t stop smiling,
And we thought we’d ride a train
Somewhere far away
Remember when we never ran out of things to say
Even when we talked all night,
And neither of us worried
That we weren’t enough.
Remember when we never thought we were giving or taking too much,
And I bought you a ring
For twenty-five cents
From a machine at the grocery store.
Remember when we never thought
That we spent too much time together,
Or that we’d be hurt,
That it would end.
Remember when we felt it all,
Raw and fresh and naïve,
And never questioned anything,
And loved with no reserve and no abandon.
Remember when he caught us,
Guilt ringing our eyes and our scent on each other,
And we walked out in silence,
And we didn’t hold hands anymore.
